"District Governor"

District Governor Charlie Tegarden and his wife Anne Our very own District Governor Charlie Tegarden was our guest today during his Official Visit. It was extra nice to have Charlie with us this past Wednesday, not only because he hails from right here in Kingman, but also because he is a reminder of the great role that Kingman has played in district involvement over the years, including our very own Past District Governor William Porter. We were also honored to have with us the ever industrious Corky Cornell, our Assistant District Governor, and Charlie's wonderful wife Anne. During his talk, Charlie gave us some background information on a number of topics including who (not what), our district really is, Rotary International President Dong Kurn Lee's theme "Make Dreams Real" and what it's about, what it means to be an effective club, and a more personal look at the Rotary Foundation.

Charlie emphasized that there isn't a direct answer to the question of "What is the district?" because the District isn't a "thing". Instead, he pointed out and explained that our District is people, like ourselves, that have chosen to volunteer additional time and resources to serving many Rotary clubs in our geographic area. District volunteers such as Corky and Charlie make it all possible through their selfless contribution of time and effort in keeping the Rotary message alive while handling so much of the organization and administration efforts necessary to keep our clubs moving forward.

District Governor Tegarden gave us some insight into our current year's Rotary theme, "Make Dreams Real" by illustrating how Rotary is situated to address the staggering childhood death rates worldwide and explaining why DK Lee chose this theme. You can read more about making dreams real on the Rotary International website. Charlie charged our club to find ways that we can make dreams real for children here and everywhere.

In speaking about what it means to be an effective club in his opinion, District Governor Tegarden outlined three key factors: (1) member development, (2) having fun in service, and (3) partnering with the Rotary Foundation. He emphasized that member development is not the same as membership development - member development focuses on helping each member get the most out of Rotary, and helping Rotary get the most out of every member. He also explained how important it is to have fun in service - clubs that have fun together, grow together, stay together and do more. Finally, Charlied explained a bit more about the Rotary Foundation and how it can be used to help our club partner with clubs internationally to realize our service goals and also help clubs internationally partner with us to realize their goals.

Thank you District Governor Tegarden for your inspiring words and fellowship! Please come back again soon!

Announcements

  • IMPORTANT: New Federal mandates for highway clean up go into effect for our next clean up (on October 4). There is a new worker sign up sheet that must be completed by each individual attending the clean up prior to October 2. It relieves the club's liability involved with the project. JC has the sign up sheet and will be able to obtain our signatures at the October 1 regular meeting. If you can not make the meeting, please call JC and make arrangements to get your signature in time.
  • The next Board meeting will be held at 6:30 PM on October 7th. The location is TBD.
  • We will be organizing a new October fundraiser in cooperation with Cerbat Lanes. It will be a Halloween-type theme and should be lots of fun. A sign up sheet for volunteers has already gone around once, but if you missed it, please grab it at the next meeting and sign up.
  • We have gotten in some stylish new Rotary hats. They're a steal at only $10, so contact Moon to get yours today!
