In Today's meeting we had the principal Julie Runkel with Ms. Cece the teacher of the month.
Ms. Runkel was shared a lot of La Senita school. They offer a multitude of programs for children in Kingman including daycare and preschool along with elementary school for special needs students. Their elementary school runs until 8th grade to transition students to high school with their IEP needs. They have 10 classrooms for Autism support, with classes having up to 20 students and 40 paraeducators. In addition to regular school offerings they have physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech services, and Cambridge Early Year program. Overall La Senita makes the lives of special needs students exceptional.
Ms. Cece is the teacher of the month. She teaches 15 students (all boys!) grades 5-8. She shared that she moved from the Philippines to the US Virgin Islands and started as a special education teacher. She then moved to Phoenix and Las Vegas, but Kingman called her heart to provide her amazing abilities as a teacher. She motivates her students with high expectations in academics. She discovered through integrating music into her teaching how it brought out their talents and self-esteem. With this discovery she created a Christmas Program, that Ms. Runkel said is magnificent, and they blossomed even more with this program. Her long term focus with her students is to build them into transition to Kingman High School and their future sucess.
