Meeting of the Kingman Rotary Club: May 21, 2008
Student Rotarian
Tegan Gibelyou attended her third Rotary meeting and gave a short talk
on the importance of the Arts in her life and her future ambitions. The Arts
have played a considerable role in Tegan's life with her involvement in
marching band and drama. She described how her experiences in marching band
and drama helped tune her discipline, social abilities and mental abilities.
Tegan hopes to open her own studio some day where she will be able to
expose future generations to the Arts.
Tegan is another shining example of promise for a brighter future for our children. Thank you Tegan!
Program
Scottie invited Sandy Shuffler to provide our program. Sandy told us a
little bit about a non-profit organization that she and Scottie's mother,
Candy, began to aid troubled youth. Their organization, ROOT (Reaching Out
in Oneness to Teens) focuses on reaching out to high school aged youth that
have run into serious behavioral and / or legal problems to help them get
their lives back on track. Their organization sees the participation of
between 40 and 80 young adults at any given time and involves house calls
and visits to juvenile detention centers.
Thank you Scottie for inviting Sandy to speak with us! Keep up the good work Sandy and Candy!
New Member: Zach Larson
We have inducted Zach Larson, sponsored by Mo, as the newest member of our Rotary club. Zach works with the Boy Scouts of America to educate and recruit boys into the Boy Scouts program. He moved to Kingman from Las Vegas where he attended UNLV to receive his bachelor's degree in mathematics after returning from his church mission to Russia.
Zach is enthusiastic and he should be another great addition to our club. Welcome aboard Zach!
